My daughter's soccer team is in a tournament next weekend. We just got the schedule for her games and were taken aback when we found that one of her games is supposed to start at 9am on Sunday!
This may be the point in this article where you quit reading and go somewhere else, or maybe not.
Our family attends services every Sunday. Part of our belief system is that 1/7th of our week is set aside for rest, prayer, study, communion, and more. We allow everything else to jump in front of what's truly important all week but do pretty good at keeping our Sunday morning appointment. Embarassingly I admit that we don't even use the entire 7th day for its purpose. We go to church and Sunday school in the morning and most times spend the rest of the day doing Saturday type stuff.
Has the world changed so much?
Is my family's Sunday schedule so odd?
The answer to these questions must be "yes" because there is no murmur in the crowd. There is no shock from the public when someone schedules something as un-important as a kids soccer game for Sunday mornings. There is even the expectation that those who said that they would play will be there! To me, this is a pretty sad state of affairs.
I discovered that the person's responsible for scheduling this tournament are members at my church. It hurts me to think that, of all the considerations that they took when creating this tournament, they never even thought about Sunday services.
I don't know what to do. My daughter will play in most of the tournament, but will not be available for one of the games because we have a previously scheduled engagement (the same one you all should have).
